About the Book:

Parable of the Sower follows a young African-American woman, Lauren Olamina, as she journeys through a United States ravaged by economic and environmental crises. The government has all but collapsed and communities are forced to create their own safe havens, buttressed against a world that has turned on itself. Lauren rejects the social constructs that have prevailed in the US for centuries and instead tries to live by her own credo, based on a new religious movement she calls Earthseed. 

Content Warning:

This novel contains multiple instances of violence against women, including rape and domestic violence. The book also references pedophilia. It includes instances of slavery, racial violence, and other acts of cruelty against BIPOC characters. There are also many violent deaths, some of which are described in detail. The novel also deals with drug addiction and questions religious faith.
